Lecture: “The latest on microclots and platelet pathologies in Long/Post-COVID and ME/CFS”

The distinguished and internationally renowned researcher Prof. Dr. Resia Pretorius (Stellenbosch University, South Africa) will present the latest findings on the background of thrombotic endothelialitis in long/post COVID syndrome and ME/CFS in her lecture.  Novel methods to study amyloid microclots will be discussed, and it will be debated if microclots are indeed “clots”.  The presentation will also include a discussion on their presence in other inflammatory diseases; and if we need to, in fact, care that these deposits are present or not.  Latest research of other groups on the topic will also be shared.

Prof. Resia Pretorius is a leading scientist at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, known for her pioneering research on blood clotting, thrombosis and inflammatory diseases. She has made significant discoveries on the pathophysiology of diseases such as COVID-19, diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis, as well as neuro-inflammatory diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Research awards include African Union Kwame Nkrumah Scientific Award, 2011, NSTF BILLITON Distinguished Researcher Award, 2018, SA Women in Science award runner-up, 2017 and 2019.
